I got a Oppo DV971H the other day and hooked it up via component cables. I'd been using the same cables with my now dead Malata n996 DVD player (that literally BLEW UP on me). I tried multiple dvd's NTSC and PAL and I keep getting these horizontal colored lines that scroll up and down the picture. Not all the time, but they are certainly noticeable (more so when the camera is moving). I've got a 6 year old Sony wega (KV-32FV16) that's not progressive. I hooked up my backup Philips 727 dvd player via the component cables and it does the same thing. I double checked the component cables and they are hooked up correctly. I then went out and picked up another component video cable... Same issue. I also brought my OPPO over to my friends house and hooked it up to his new Sony Wega via Component In's. Worked fine...

I'm really puzzled because I used the same component in's with my old Malata player for over 4 years. One thing I did notice is the Component in's on the Wega are labeled Y,Pr,Pb instead of Y,Cr,Cb like the Oppo. Could there be some sort of small voltage difference in my Wega's Component in's??? This is really frustrating. Any help would be gladly appriciated. Thx!

Maybe your 'old' non P-scan TV doesnt like it when fed progressive scan sources.

Try turning 'off' the progressive scanning on the DVD player to verify if that's related to the problem.

Actually, the weird thing about the OPPO DVD player is that it doesn't do Progressive via the Component cables, only through the DVI output.

hmmm....that's interesting. On the HD/up-converting DVD players, I've heard they wont upconvert without the DVI connection, but not that they dont operate in progressive mode.

Well from what I understand this is only so on the Oppo DVD player... Kinda weird, but it doesn't do me any good even if it was progressive.

If you cant figure it out, I'd definitely try another DVD player. Maybe you can borrow a friends to see if the lines are still a problem.

There is no way I could tolerate any interference of any kind.

I had a similar problem. With the DVD using interlaced setting with darker screen shots I would get a colored line going from bottom to top. On progressive setting with the DVD the line went away. I thought it was my projector, the cables, the DVD player, my RF modulator-- so forth and so on.

Actually it was a grounding issue. Once the subwoofer was plugged into the same surge protector the issue went away.

I read somewhere that all your components need to be grounded in the same manner. Check if all your components are grounded into the same or similar surge protector.

Hope this helps.
