I was told I could run rg6 coaxial in wall for my subwoofer. I did this and converted the coaxial connection to rca at a wallplate. Plugged the sub into 1 plate and a audio cable from the other into the sub connection of the receiver and I am hearing is a loud humming. Was it a bad idea to use the coaxial or am I doing something wrong? |

In my experience, RG6 does an excellent job. Check the points where the cable is terminated and where it is connected into the wallplate. Poor connections will cause hum. |

I used a screw on type coaxial connector. Do you think this could be the problem? Everything seems to fit ok |

Possibly. Turn on the sub at low but audible volume level. Wiggle connections a bit to see if humming worsens or disappears. |

do you know if it is an 8ohm or 4ohm speaker, if its the latter, series the wires like thishttp://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html#1dvcs if it is a dual 8 then either do the same or do thishttp://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html#1dvcp but that will put the ohms at 4 at the amp. Usually house amps are 6-8ohms. if you have two of these spkrs @ 8 ohms then run the series and then run both sets together at the amp. |
