I have been treating my room with OC 703 panels for acoustics and so far the rooms sounds a lot better except that my room is a bit 'L' shaped with a exposed stair well that has a horrible flutter echo problem. How could I tame the echo in the stair well so it doesn't spoil the sound for the rest of the room? I have a few thoughts:

1. layered heavy curtains covering the stair well entry way.

2. Make some 703 panels for the stair well.

Do you know where the harmonics are? If you can get your hands on an RTA (real time analyzer) and shoot a little pink noise into the room you'll better know the target frequencies to you need to hit.
My guess is that there going to be in low range, so the use of fiberglass may not get it. (tip: try humming at different notes while standing in the stairwell. When you find the harmonic it'll sound louder without raising your volume)

Try foam or rubber/cork to dampen low end. E-A-R makes some sound adsorbing material that is effective and $$.
