i have the digital optical cables running between my dvd players and my reciever.

Do i need to also run the RCA cables in addtion to those or can i just use the OPTICAL cable alone?

I thought i remember reading somewhere that you must have both connected but i could be wrong. I just wanted a second opinion.

Optical only unless you intend to record onto an analog device. Many receivers do not convert digital to analog.
