Have spent many days trying to decide between the 770 and 450. The posted problems make me wonder if the 770 is just too complicated. Of course there are tradeoffs to everything. Anyone have thoughts about the advantages of one over the other. My sue will be mostly theatre with a commbined dvd/VHS player/recorder. Many, many thanks!

i have also narrowed my choice between the Onkyo HT-S770 and the Yamaha YHT-450. I am purchasing the Toshiba 52HM94 DLP to go with one of these systems. I would like to hear a comparison between the two if anyone has experience with both.

I've got the 450, it's excellent. I don't use the front speakers that came with it though, I use them on B. I use the 8" Yamaha bookshelf speakers. Yamaha is the only receiver I could find that allows Bass/Treble adjustment in all modes. I looked at $700 receivers, as soon as you go into Dolby Digital/DTS, the Bass/Treble is disabled.
