I must be missing something obvious. This has baffled and frustrated me tonight. I have a Panasonic F-87K DVD player and a Denon 2105 receiver.

Though I've ventured deep into the Panasonic's setup menu I cannot get surround sound to work. My receiver is always seeing a 2CH signal. A digital coaxial cable connects them. Running the test tones from the Denon confirms my speakers are all working. When I run the test tones from my DVD player's speaker setup menu, only the front mains output the tone.

Per the recommendation of my Denon's instruction manual I set my DVD player's digital output to Bitstream.

However when I turn the PCM sampling rate option to "off" I get no sound whatsoever... leading me to believe it's doing PCM even when I have it set for Bitstream.

I'm confused! I just want to watch a movie. :-(
