I see on the connection diagrams and descriptions that people have their components attached together using multiple connections such as coax and RCA.

What is the benefit to doing this?

I am planning out the wiring for my theater setup with the following components:

Surround sound receiver
DVD
VCR
Cable Box
TV

Thanks for any info!
