Why would I want to connect my video to the connections on my stero receiver? Right now my TV has one S connector which I connect right into the tv would it be better if everything(dig cable box, tv, DVD) went through the receiver?

not necessarily. The best connection is still direct to TV. Connecting to the receiver is more of a convenience.
