The problem i have is getting the sound from ps2 out the 5.1 speakers as the optical port i have plugged the cable from the ps2 into is in the back of the dvd player part of the system and the only functions i have are dvd, aux1 and aux 2 but the aux are nothing to do with the dvd player part. if anyone can help it would be much appreciated?

make sure its going into the DVD INPUT on the reciever/unit, not the output. you need to explain this better as im still comfused about exaclty what u are saying
