I dont really know much about projectors and was wondering what you all would purchase if you had a thousand dollar. What is the best projector in the sub $1000 category.

Check out the Hitachi LCD Home 1 or Illumina PJ-TX10 (I believe this is the same model). Look at the reviews under Ecoustics - Televisions - Front Projection. This projector has received some rave reviews for a product at its price category. I own one and I am pretty happy with it.
This is one of the few projectors in this price category that has an adjustable zoom and it also has lens shift, so that the projectors doesn't have to be centered with regards to the screen, making placement very easy.
