I have seen shows that say they are presented in DD Surround, 2 examples being The X Files and COPS. I am running a optical cable out of the satellite receivers DD out port into my HT receiver.

How can these shows be listened to in (im assuming 5.1) surround sound? Thanks!

You need a digital cable provider or a satellite receiver. The ONLY way to get DD is through a digital stream.

I know on some receivers you have to specifically designate the optical input to accompany video inputs. Make sure your reciever knows to use that optical input with whatever video input your sattelite goes to. Most movie channels show movies with a DD soundtrack as well.
