Hey guys I'm going to be being a router soon. Will this be a good one? http://www.amazon.com/Skil-1820-2-Horsepower-Plunge-Router/dp/B0000C6DXZ/ref=sr_ 1_153?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1240611248&sr=1-153 To make speaker rings isn't there a grid or something like that? |

Skil makes average entry level power tools. I'd put that router right next to Craftsman's lower end series routers. Will get the job done and are priced reasonable. Step up to Ryobi and Delta for a bigger price/performance. Next IMO is Makita and Dewalt. Another step up is Bosch and Porter Cable but they are pricey, and worth it. It mostly breaks down to your intended use. I don't recommend buying a $300 router if you're only going to pull it out once a month or two. I also don't recommend buying a no name special for $40 when all you'll get out of it is frustration. You want to match your use to your budget. Just as important as any power tool is the accessory/bit/blade you put on it also.

agreed with pauly - though skill aint bad for the average home user i have a 2hp B&D that resembles the skill : looks like this actually http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1240632163/ref=sr_nr_p_4_5?ie=UTF8&rs=228013&keyword s=Plunge%20Router&bbn=228013&rnid=339804011&rh=n%3A228013%2Cn%3A%21468240%2Ck%3A Plunge%20Router%2Cp%5F4%3ABlack%20%26%20Decker it works decent for its price range but next time i upgrade im getting like a tougher 3hp like either a makita , milwaukee , bosch like paul said it depends on how often u gonna use it & ur budget ... |

Haha, I clicked on this thread thinking of a router used for internet/networks. That's just my fault for assuming =/ |

Most manufacturers will design their jig to fit most name brands. It only makes them more money if they do. Take a look at Partsexpress. Tad pricey but looks to work with most well named routers. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=365-270&utm_source=DIYA udio-Banner&utm_medium=Banner-Ad&utm_content=Router-Buddy-Circle-Jig-365-270&utm _campaign=DIYAudio |
