i've been doing this for the past few years but lately i've noticed that my lowe alpine 30L daypack just isn't enough anymore. Our trips are getting longer every time. so its time I upgrade. i have little experience in the 45L+ pack field so im hoping that some of you guys have used some nice packs that you could recommend. I want to stay under $150 and as always the cheaper the price the better.. i will be using it for some fairly heavy hiking so wieght is an issue. looking for a nice solo night up to 4-5 day pack. any help on this subject is appreciated.

i've been looking at the following packs
http://www.deuterusa.com/products/productDetail.php?packID=futuraZero50&sub=hiki ng&tert=futuraZero

http://www.deuterusa.com/products/productDetail.php?packID=aircontactLite50+10&s ub=trekking&tert=aircontactLite

http://www.deuterusa.com/products/productDetail.php?packID=aircontactZero60+10&s ub=trekking&tert=aircontactZero

http://www.gregorypacks.com/prod.php?ID=85

http://www.thenorthface.com/opencms/opencms/tnf/gear.jsp?site=NA&model=AS9E&lang uage=en

now the first one i would choose is the North Face since most of my other backpacking stuff is NF and the price for features of that pack is nice but when i ask the local hikers they don't think to highly of backpacks from North Face. I don't know why since all the north face stuff i own is top quality.

And of course feel free to share the always interesting camping/hiking stories here

I camp now at the Holiday Inn and hike to the bar downstairs..lol

My camping days ended a few years ago up and down Pikes Peak, through the Garden of the Gods, and up Mount Washington....so, sorry but I'm of no help!

good luck on your ventures..

I flucking love camping. My grandparents took us every year to KOA campgrounds as a kid. Got older and went with friends on our own. Once kids came into the mix it sorta stopped lol. Use to go to Canada every year for almost 5 years. Other places here and there.

Sorry I can't help with the gear recommendations. I used to stuff an army duffel bag with all my stuff. Been slowly accumulating more gear tho anticipating getting back into it when the kids are a tad older. New tent, cot, stove, lanterns, fishing gear, ect....

Even went out and bought a pie iron. I used to use them in boy scouts. If you know what they are then you're from my time in camping.

thanks for the responses guys.

yea backpacking is just one of those things where it doesn't seem like much fun until you try it.

as for the pack i went with a Deuter aircontact 45+10
