Interesting article from Wired Magazine:

quote:

"Don't work too hard," wrote a colleague in an e-mail today. Was she sincere or sarcastic? I think I know (sarcastic), but I'm probably wrong.

According to recent research published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, I've only a 50-50 chance of ascertaining the tone of any e-mail message. The study also shows that people think they've correctly interpreted the tone of e-mails they receive 90 percent of the time.

Interesting...but would you say that any group of people having the licence to call another group of people a bunch of "towel heads" or even the "N" word is still open to interpretation of tone?

If someone writes "fuuuuuckk youuuuuu" to bypass the automatic filter of the forum, would you still mistake the correct interpretation of that tone. What other tone would you put that under? A term of endearment perhaps?

Most of the stuff here has no tone...it is downright name calling...or did I misinterpret that?

Interesting indeed!

What about these
http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/8829/117518.html

a guy named Dicc Head...you think there's room for interpretation on this guy?

Then there's knee grow...

How about this? Pay particular attention to our resident Klan man shamu

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/8829/117518.html

You think maybe he has a different tone in mind?

or maybe this one from shamu and his new pal oldschool for life

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/8829/117518.html

maybe this one from Kevin Okeefe

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/47073/107739.html

why has his rant against Mexicans still goes uncleaned?

Or am I misinterpreting the tone of these as well?

I can deal with the nonsense off topic posts...which really should be it's own section anyway...but the downright and blatant hostility is a different matter.

You have posted rules and agreements by being on this forum, but most are not even followed, you don't look out for us that follow the rules so we have to look out for ourselves. And by doing so we start breaking the rules we used to follow. But hey, what can we do?

Does this mean we won't be hearing from you anymore shamu? I doubt that, but you are welcome to try.
