does anyone out there owns any of these dvd players? v bravo d1 or samsung hd931 i would like to buy any of them because of the hdtv picture but i don't know if they really work good or not. can anyone help me? |

They are not HDTV DVD players. Each player you mentioned has a DVI output, which can send a copy-protected digital signal to your TV. But it is not an HDTV quality signal. Your TV must have a DVI input to accept the connection.
The maximum video output of both DVD player's is still 480p (720x480), using DVI or component outputs. |

The last posting is not accurate. Both units will output a 720p or 1080i signal through the DVI output. Both have scalers that upconvert the 480i signal on the DVD itself. The Samsung uses the Feroudja chip to do the scaling, and is supposedly the state of the art. The lower-quality Bravo (which I have seen described as "tinny") uses a less expensive scaler. Neither will do you any good (except for the DVI connection) if you have a better scaler already in your HDTV or HDTV converter.

To clarify both Anonymous and Mr. Aikman's posts:
At this writing, no commercially available HD DVD player is being sold in America. You can upsample all you want, but an SDTV signal, such as has been encoded by traditional MPEG 2 methods, sent by whatever connection, DVI, component, SDI, etc. will not be a true HDTV signal. Displayed on an HDTV, it will look good, but it will not be true HD 1080i. |

I have a Hitachi HD ready Projection TV. I'am in the market for a DVD player. Currently I have a DTS Progressive scan DVD player. Will the DVI Samsung player make a difference? I do have a DVI connector on my 57" hitachi? |

I just tried samsung hd931 with 480p, 720p and 1080i
mode on my Sony 24" XBR tv. It is wonderful in the
720p and 1080i. I feel the difference between
480p vs 720p like conventional dvd vs VHS.
I can watch my tv within 2 ft distance with no
visible scan line!

I own the sony 34" HD TRINITRON, and the SAMSUNG DVI DVD player. With most dvd's i play the picture is out of this world!!! But that is only with the newer dvd's. Some older dvd's,(or dvd's of older movies) look like crap. I was watching DUMB AND DUMBER a few nights ago with my wife, we had it in the samsung and the picture looked fuzzy, so i futzed around with it a bit but end up throwing the disc in our 5 disc player that we use for adio cd's. The 5 disc is hooked up with upgrade component cables and i have got to admit, that component picture blew the dvi picture out of the water. But then the next night we watched GONE IN 60 SECONDS on the component dvd player and half way throug the movie i put it in the samsing dvi player and that dvi picture was way better then component. So, in ending i will keep my samsung and a would suggest buying one, just have a backup on hand for the older flicks. |

I think there is a HD DVD player, although there is no true HD-DVD format. The LG LST-3510A supports a "Hi-Format" which if it functions as desribed would play back a HDTV MPEG2 file. Although it would only be 30 minutes long on a standard disk (60 minutes long on a dual layer disc.) I am not sure how you would author such a file. |

I'm curious, if you have an HDTV with DTVLink (firewire) in ports, can you connect a dvd player with firewire out such as the Pioneer DV-47Ai to these and also achieve a straight digital connection as you would through DVI? |

Jeff Knapp. Did you find out the answer to your question. I also have a Pioneer DV-47ai player and just bought a Sony KE-37XS910 HD TV and am wondering the best way to hook up. Currently I have the dvd player hooked up (to older tv - waiting for delivery of new one) via component cables and would like to know if there is a better way for the HD TV connection.

I just got the HT30744 Sanyo HDTV and the Toshiba SD-5970. This seems to be a great combination as they both have HDMI connectors and the player comes with a cable. |

did anyone see the Tech TV episode about the new MUSTANG 05'.....well they previewed a DVD player that converts DVD's to HDTV resolution..dv-2 format or something like that....the DVD player wasnt a regular name brand but it cost about 250 and i cant remember the brand name.....but it was on that episode...........if you figure it out please email me at spradss@hotmail.com.........thanx |

I have a toshiba 65 in high deff ready rear projection tv without dvi in put. I just have componet in puts how do i hookup the dvi dvd players that convert the dvd to hd dvd? is there a cable that goes from componet to dvi and if so does it still convert the signal to hd dvd quality? |

Does the Samsung HD-841 have the Feroudja chip like the HD-941 does? Our tv doesn't have HDMI, it only has DVI. I had just heard that the 941 was supposed to have some nicer components then the 841 |

No dvi to component adapter. No upconversion dvd players without DVI or HDMI inputs on your tv. HD-841 does not have the Feroudja chip. I used the Toshiba dvd with upconversion for a total of one night. My denon with component input, Feroudja, and Burr-Brown sounds and looks better in my opinion. I think the upconversion dvd players are a little gimmicky. |

No loss in quality from hdmi to dvi, dvi does not run audio though. But I'm pretty sure you don't care about that. |
