The Direct TV HD box is connected to a new Samsung TV via HDMI cable and it's also connected to the JVC recorder using Composit cable. The new JVC recorder then has Component cables (audio and video) going out and hooked to the TV component in . The JVC turned on, it says "Hello" but the JVC home menu system won't appear on my TV in order for me to program date, time, and all else. Should I also attach an HDMI cable from recorder to TV and dump the component connection? I don' t want to disconnect the HDMI signal from receiver to tv to dumb down my picture. I would rather return the new JVC recorder. Or can you tell me what is wrong with this hook up? |

If indeed you have the component video OUT from the JVC connected to the TV's component IN, all you have to do on the TV is to select the input choice to Component for you to see the JVC's menu. |

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question - that is exactly what the problem was! I hadn't realized I had to change the source input. |
