My wife and I have the Sony RDR-HX900 for 3 years now and its starting to shut off while recording. Not every time, but every week. We believe its a Hard drive problem which could be replaced as per this link below. However what other Hard drive DVD recorders are good to get? How is the Philips Hard Disk/DVD Recorder 160 GB (DVDR3576H/37)? We don't want to spend more than that. Thanks!

Philips/Magnavox are the only new HDD recorders left. They are made by Funai. The only other option is ebay or somewhere like that. I bought a new Toshiba a couple of months ago on ebay for a killer price. You might luck out like I did if you keep a close eye on the listings.
