Mingo's Advice

Since Mingo is moving to the UK and has stated it will be more difficalt for him to supply bins but will still do his best to do so. It now up to us to deside to stick it out with the Ariza stb or move on to something else. Here is a quote from Mingo.

C/p from Mingo plus his link.

Best advice I can give is buy the cheapest box you can afford. Dont invest to much money. In Europe Things have been down for some time and soon It could happen here as well. We all know B is doing a card swap. It will be DTV all over again. So dont over spend. You can buy a CNX mini for 139.99 or less Great prices on hard ware now. Captive works for as low as 70.00 you cant go wrong. If you think It wont happen I want my DTV back! SKY in the UK also uses NDS so that would be sweet.

MINGO><OGNIM

http://www.ftatalkDOTcom/showpost.php?...1&postcount=22

Here are some STB prices in Canadian funds. Don't over pay if you buy a new STB. And don't buy a clone. Keep in mind that bev is doing a card swap.

CNX Mini $120.00 with switch and USB

Sonicview sv 4000 $129.99 USB port

Captive Works 600 prem $49.00 (found this one on Sale was $84.00)

Captive Works 700s $114.99 with USB port

Captive Works 800 $129.99 USB port

Viewsat Ultra $139.99 USB port

Viewsat Pro $169.00 USB port.

Now these prices were easy to find on the internet for the southern Ontario region. You may find them lower or higher as these were the average prices I found. You'll pay more for Authorized Dealers but most of all read up on detecting a clone before buying any model. Even Authorized Dealers can rip you off so be a smart shopper.

For those that want to stay with the Ariza I'll say this. AS long as someone supplies bins for the Ariza STB I'll do my best in helping to keep them going.

All the best to you Mingo and thanks for your past support and continuing support on the Ariza STB. The STB choices you made have great support and I'm sure members will be happy with them.

I'm not a dealer in STB's so please don't ask to buy one from me.

it's been confirmed elsewhere that ariza 700 can be succesfully converted to pansat 2700. i have all the instructions and files but i can't do any testing due to my lnb soaked in water. It apparently had cracked and i didn't notice it till now. this is not a rumor. I would post the files but i think only administrators can do that. these files are 1 day old so i'm confident they're up to date.

here's the actual post:

Ariza 700 To Pansat 2700 Jtag Conversion

Ariza 700 To Pansat 2700 Jtag Conversion
Ariza 700 To Pansat 2700 Jtag Conversion
Ok folks here is the conversion for the ariza 700 to pansat 2700...
Now it is a USE AT OWN RISK and also DO NOT PM ME WITH QUESTIONS there will be a feedback thread started for that....To start you will need the files provided in thread... Also if you not good with jtag do not try ..
YOU WILL NEED A JTAG AND ALSO A NULL CABLE TO LOAD FILES
Step 1 Read the instructions provided with jtag info.....( a must)
Step 2 when done with jtagging do not turn off machine unhook jtag
Step 3 open up gt rom loader 27.02 and load pansat 2700 factory bin..
Step 4 load the B75_m fileNow when machine done loading it will reboot do not turn off let it show 8"s goin across then stops on last 8 for roughly 30 sec..
now turn off from back and set up loader...When loader ready turn on from back and at first sign of light hit fix on loader..Do this process for all files...
Step 5 open up BL 1.3 loader and load jvvh 209 file
Step 6 load jvvh 209 file
Step 7 load on the jvvh 211 file
Step 8 load the jvvh 217 file
Step 9 load the jvvh 220 ( the whole time using the BL 1.3 loader)
Step 9 Do blind scans of sats. What u will notice is that your display shows 8's on it dont worry about it at this point just enjoy and watch t.v........And yes your ariza remote will work on this conversion......
REMEMBER READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS

These are new and reported to be working well. Use at your own risk.

Simple JTAG

Ok here it is.

A very simple JTAG interface that works!

I like most people was not born reading schematics and figured there was a easier way to do this JTAG stuff.

I am sure a lot of other people came up with the following.

The kudos’ for this collection go to the original authors, who ever they are.
Parts

I bought a 5 pack of 100 OHM 1/2 watt resistors from Radio Shack (wattage does not matter, 1/8 through 1/2 are fine). Also I scrounged up a 25D(parallel) connector. I also used a six inch piece of Cat5 cable I had laying around (keep it under 12" and you should be fine).
Connections to D25

1. I soldered one wire to pins 18-25 on the D25 connector. Really all I did was spread solder across those pins and then soldered the wire to it.
2. Soldered a 100 OHM resistor to each the following pins on the D25 connector. Pins 2, 3, 4, 5, and 13.
3. I then soldered a wire from the Cat5 cable to the other end of each resistor.
4. I unplugged the IRD and unhooked all the cables to it.
5. Then I flipped it over and soldered the wires from the other end of the Cat 5 cable, parallel or serial ribbon cable can also be used as seen below.

Connection to Ariza 7xx IRD

------------ Front-------------

X X X X 2 3 4 13 X 5

Numbers are the pin numbers on the DB-25 connector.

Use a board mounting screw hole “the tinned solder patch under the screw” is enough for a good ground.

Try to keep its length less than 6-8 inches if you can.

This view is from the front right of the Ariza looking from above the card slot if equipped and behind

Solder the wires directly to the correct jTag pads on the board as shown above.

JTAG Guide
Introduction

After reading this simple, easy to follow guide, and following all the instructions exactly, you will be able to extract your receiver's box keys and dump your TSOP. The box key is useful when using camless solutions such as emulation or when using the Atmega. Dumping your TSOP is a good idea because there is always the possibility of an ECM that targets your TSOP. Almost anyone with experience will tell you it is a good idea to dump your TSOP. This guide will assume you have some basic knowledge and know how to download files off the internet and unzip them. Please note I take no resposiblity for any damage you may cause as well as any laws you may be breaking. Please read the disclaimer on the home page. This guide is for eductaional purposes only. Enjoy.

Difficulty Level

The difficulty level of this project is 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. It will require that you solder wires to the bottom of your receiver and you must have at least a little bit of experiece with soldering in smaller areas. This project should take you 45 minutes if all goes well.

What's Needed
• Jkeys 1.33
o download it from here
• Bell Expressvu or Dish Network IRD
o must have JTAG port on bottom
o The following models have JTAG: 2700, 2800, 3700, 3800, 3900, 4700, 4900, DP301 (3100), PVR501 (5100), 6000 plus DRD420, 440, 480
• Computer:
o must have available printer port
• 5 100Ohm Resistors
o I've heard that 1/8 to 1/2 Watt will work, I know 1/4 Watt works
• Soldering Iron
o 25 Watts or so
• Wire
o Cat 5 works best, but regular copper wire works too
o you wont need too much wire. You will need 6 pieces that are 6 inches or so
• Solder
o any 60/40 solder
• DB 25 Connector
o you will want a male connector because your computer's printer port in female

________________________________________
Building the JTAG
The first thing you're going to do is make the simple JTAG reader. First, solder the 5 100 Ohm resitors to pins 2, 3, 4, 5 and 13 . Now, take your 5 pieces of 6 inch wire and solder one each to each end of the 5 resistors. You may not get proper results if your wire is longer than 6 inches. Now would be a good time to inspect all your solder joints and make sure that you didn't leave a solder spike across any of the pins. Now, you must make a connection for ground. This is done by taking the last wire you have and soldering it to pins 18-25 of the DB 25.
________________________________________
Hooking up the JTAG
Once you have the JTAG reader built, you now want to solder it to your IRD. First of all, you should pre solder your wires. Just add a little bid of solder to the end of each wire. ***Please note that if you aren't careful when soldering your JTAG to your IRD, you can mess something up. Please note that I take no responsibility for whatever may happen. Many people say that you shouldn't solder at all to those pads on the bottom of your IRD. I have done this on 4 different IRDs and never had a problem, but that doesn't mean you wont. BE CAREFUL AND DON'T CROSS ANY WIRES. You've been warned!*** Ok, once you've pre soldered your wires, you now have to figure out where you are going to solder your wires to on the bottom of your IRD. Make sure your IRD is unplugged when soldering to it. Please use these diagrams as a reference:

2700,2800,3700,3800,3900,4700 & 4900 IRDs

3100 IRD

5100 IRD

6000 IRD (Not sure if this is correct!)

Please note where the front and back of the IRD is.

Make sure that you have good connections to the proper pads. DON'T HOLD THE SOLDERING IRON ON THE PADS TOO LONG. I don't even like to touch the IRD pads. What I do is hold the soldering iron to the wire and let the heat melt the solder that is on the wire when I pre soldered it. Inspect all your joints and make sure that there are no crosses and that your JTAG wires aren't touching each other.
________________________________________
Getting your Boxkey
You now want to download Jkeys and unzip it to a folder of your choice. Connect your JTAG to your computer's printer port and plug in your IRD. DO NOT TURN THE IRD ON. Just plug it in. When you start Jkeys, your box keys should be there. If you don't see your Boxkey and IRD number, make sure that all your connections are good and no wires are crossing. ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR BOX KEY, WRITE IT DOWN IN A SAFE PLACE! YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE THIS! . It might be a good idea now to save your TSOP in case of an ECM. No one would argue that it is a bad idea to have a back up of your TSOP on your computer. Read the next section for information on backing up your TSOP.
________________________________________
Backing up your TSOP
Once you have got your box key, you should dump (make a back up) of your TSOP. Doing this is not to difficult with JKeys. All you have to do is look at the chart below, and then enter the values into JKeys. Different IRDs have different TSOPs, so that means they have different start addresses and sizes. To dump your TSOP, find your IRD in the chart below, then enter the values for youR IRD into JKeys. Then press "Save Mem". Note that the 3100 and 5100 have two TSOPs, so you must save both

No new bin out after April 04,2008.

old bin doesn't work either. i think you have to do jtag and convert Ariza 700 to pansat 2700.

some people did that and running very good.

Ariza 700 To Pansat 2700 Jtag Conversion

Thanks goes to RBBB and the others at geeks
