My 2 qeustions are:
1) Will my analog satellite receiver work after feb 28, 2009 when all transmisions go digital? Or will I have to upgrade to a digital receiver. It seems the satellite company should pay for that.
2) On my analog satellite receiver, is an antennae to transmit to a second TV (analog). Will I need a converter for that second TV? |

Thanks. But why is DISH trying to say I need to get a digital receiver? If the analog receiver is good with digital signals, then isn't the analog TV getting digital signals through it after 2009? |

Some satellite owners still seek out this sort of programming on their own, but today, most satellite TV customers get their programming through a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) provider, such as DirecTV or DISH Network. The provider selects programs and broadcasts them to subscribers as a set package. Basically, the provider's goal is to bring dozens or even hundreds of channels to your TV in a form that approximates the competition, cable TV.
Unlike earlier programming, the provider's broadcast is completely digital, which means it has much better picture and sound quality (see How Digital Television Works for details). Early satellite television was broadcast in C-band radio -- radio in the 3.7-gigahertz (GHz) to 6.4-GHz frequency range. Digital broadcast satellite transmits programming in the Ku frequency range (11.7 GHz to 14.5 GHz ).

I appreciate that. What about the analog TV in the other room that is getting a satellite feed from my receiver? If it is getting a digital signal from the receiver, then it should not need a converter. Then why is DISH saying I need to get a digital receiver? Just trying to make money before Feb09? |

What is the digital television transition?
At midnight on February 17, 2009, all full-power television stations in the United States will stop broadcasting in analog and switch to 100% digital broadcasting. Digital broadcasting promises to provide a clearer picture and more programming options and will free up airwaves for use by emergency responders.
What is the TV Converter Box Coupon Program?
Congress created the TV Converter Box Coupon Program for households wishing to keep using their analog TV sets after February 17, 2009. The Program allows U.S. households to obtain up to two coupons, each worth $40, that can be applied toward the cost of eligible converter boxes.
A TV connected to cable, satellite or other pay TV service does not require a TV converter box from this program.
Consumers have a variety of options. Options to explore include:
Keep your existing analog TV and purchase a TV converter box. A converter box plugs into your TV and will keep it working after Feb. 17, 2009, or
Connect to cable, satellite or other pay service, or
Purchase a television with a digital tuner.

I did. I just don't trust the sales guys trying to sell me a digital receiver when I don't need one. ie., a digital satellite signal is a digital satellite signal. Right? If the analog receiver does not work after Feb 18, 2009, then I believe they should provide the digtial receiver at that time. |

To keep it simple, if U get your TV via Rabbit ears, after 2-18-09
U can keep your old TV, just get a converter box... Nice Info LK !

its only for usa ...only not in canada yet.. |

sada..your info is not correct...U do NOT have to own a 10 year old TV, or "old old tv's wont for work "...U can have a brand new TV, that is analog and could need a digital converter box...ONLY TV's since since last May 25, 2007 are required to have digital tuners..or a disclaimer..
Therefore, after May 25, 2007, all television equipment being sold should contain a digital tuner, or should be identified at the point-of-sale as not having one. Be sure to look for this label if you are purchasing a new TV.
As for how to determine whether your television equipment purchased prior to May 25, 2007 is a DTV, many DTVs and digital television equipment will have labels or markings on them, or statements in the informational materials that came with them, to indicate that they contain digital tuners. These labels or markings may contain the words “Integrated Digital Tuner” or “Digital Tuner Built-In.” “Receiver” may be substituted for “Tuner,” and “DTV,” “ATSC,” or “HDTV” (high definition television) may be substituted for “Digital.” If your television equipment contains any of these labels or markings, you should be able to view digital over-the-air programming without the need for a digital-to-analog converter box. (Remember, you do not need an HDTV to view free over-the-air digital programming. As long as your television equipment contains a digital tuner, you can view over-the-air digital. An HDTV is only necessary if you want to view digital programming in “high definition.”) |

However , if U live in Canada, and have a OTA roof (not satellite) antenna that picks up US stations , then U will have to also have a digital tuner or converter box TV.. |

You still have not answered my question. I totally understand my old analog TV will need a converter and my new HDTV will not. My question still remains. Why do I need a digital receiver for my HDTV? Or will the analog DN322 DISH receiver that I currently have, be fine? |

kevin, if it connects to a reciever/ cable box, u are fine. The second tv still connects to a reciever, even though its in another room. |
