About 5 years ago we bought a KF-50XBR800 and have been very pleased. last night the projection lamp burned out. Is 5 years a normal life for the bulb?? My main question is: Are aftermarket lamps as good as the Sony?? Are any retailers better than other??

As with cars and milage, the age of the TV isn't as important as the actual hours on the lamp. The AV press (along with Consumer Reports) say that 2000 to 3000 hours is average. I suspect that figure is higher, probably 5000. That much time equates to almost 3 hours a day for five years. If your display is anywhere close to that you done good, Ed.

Sorry, I cannot give any opinion on bulb choice, but I would be inclined to give the aftermarket a chance.
