Does reception improve if a dish is installed on a residential roof top vs the ground, assuming there are no obstructions ? It seems hard to imagine that there would be any significant difference of another 30 feet in the scheme of things.

none line of sight is all thats needed

Dish on a 7' post is one safer, easy to rework on in future , a snap to wipe off snow or ice
