So I bought this new Toshiba Laptop with a nifty HD-DVD player in it and decided to see if I could plug the laptop up to my HiDef TV and watch HD-DVD's on it with my laptop sitting on the table or closed underneath the TV. I have a VGA-Component cable that I use where VGA out of laptop and component into the TV. I cannot see any picture no matter what I do. What is wrong?

VGA will not carry a hidef signal as far as I know. But, to try it you probably need to use the Fn key along with either the F8 or F9 key to send the video signal to an external monitor. Look at the F keys and look for something like LCD or Ext. Mon. to see what key combo will do that for you. Otherwise, check the laptop's documentation on how to send the signal to an external monitor. If you have done that and it still isn't working, then I suspect that it is the VGA that won't handle a hidef signal.
