I got an RCA DRC8000N DVD Recorder yesterday. I have DirecTV and everything is hooked up to a stereo system. Everything seems to work fine, but when I play a home VHS tape (for the purpose of recording to a DVD), I can't get the picture to show (through the DVD Recorder), although I hear the sound. I can see the picture in normal TV mode. I guess that means I have the audio jacks correct, but not the video jack. If you've seen the reviews of this recorder, you would know that the manual is terrible. Any suggestions? Thanks, Larry

I'm not sure the protection is your problem.
In case it is this one will help you

Also try to check it with another VHS which you know is not protected (non comercial)

Hi Andy.
Just a couple of lines to inform you that this morning I have received my order of DVD Red PRO in Italy, safe and sound.
I've just been testing it with both PAL and NTSC signal, and it's really an excellent product!
Thank you very much for your advice and cooperation!
Best regards
