I recently set up my home theatre system and have a grainy picture but not all the time. For example, when watching a baseball game, there are some camera angles that look perfect but others look grainy. This happens on other stations as well. I have a Samsung 61" DLP model hl-t6187s and a Harmon Kardon 300w 5.1 model avr-146. Have hdmi cable from harmon kardon to tv and hdmi and optical cables from direct tv reciever to the harmon kardon. Any suggestions??????? |

I assume your DirecTV is their HD service ? Does your feed from DirecTV look OK on network evening programing in HD ? Did the "grainy" views have sidebars - effectively reducing the active area to 4:3 ratio instead of the full screen 16:9 aspect ratio. I'm trying to determine if the visual grainy image you are seeing is actually 480i standard defination (SD) source.....it would look grainy on a 61" TV |

yes. direct tv is my hd provider. i don't get a good picture from my non hd programs. the grainy views may or may not have sidebars. i get it on both. The setting on my direct tv reciever is 1080i and 16:9 aspect ratio. most of the grainy camera angles are full court shots in basketball games or full field shots in football for example. |

the tv upconverts sd channels which shows the imperfections where an SD tv doesnt. |
