The two I'm thinking about: 1. Sharp LCD - Model LC-42D62U - A 1080p LCD that I can get for $950 2. Panasonic Plasma - Model TH-42PX75U - A 720p plasma that I can get also for about $950 Any thoughts??? Thanks. |

Why would you compare a 1080p with a 720p? |

He is comparing it to $950 price They are both great TVs yo won't go wrong either way. I would pick the TH-42PX75U If price is the major issue for $200 more yo may pick: Panasonic TH-42PZ700U 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV If yo watch a lot of HD programs and sports Yo can also read reviews and compare prices at amazon-com |

Tough choice as Panasonic will still play 1080i sources. But you do build in a limitation-no Blu Ray or HDDVD 1080p playback. Someday there may be 1080p broadcasts. Actually, I think King has a great idea. Save up a little longer and get the 700U. |

Depends on ambient light in the room as well as material viewed. As an FYI, Panasonics 1080P plasmas thus far show a huge decrease in contrast ratio compared to their 720P plasmas. |

Also you can watch any HD-DVDs or blu ray DVDs on any of the displays you listed. The vid signal will simply be downscaled to fit the fixed pixel resolution of the display. |

I didn't say you could not watch HD-DVD or blu ray. What I said was..."But you do build in a limitation-no Blu Ray or HDDVD 1080p playback." Perfect example of posters misquoting other posters. Marc, did you perhaps attend the Jan Vigne school of posting? |

I made no reference to your post. What are you talking about? I did not quote you at all. |

Anyway, Scott, plasmas have an advantage over LCDs in true contrast rations, but that advantage is minimized or lost in environments with more light. The human eye is more sensitive to contrast ratio changes than resolution, so a 720P display can actually give a better picture than a 1080P disdplay with worse contrast ratios. |
