I just had to replace my old VCR/DVD player. I got the new player home only to realize that I can't tape off of the TV because the VCR has no internal tuner. I went to a specialty electronics store (one where they seem to know what they're talking about) and they sold me a "Video Switch and Converter", assuring me that it would allow me to tape off of television even though I have no cable--just the basic network broadcast TV you get with an antenna. I can't get the thing to work. (It will play tapes and dvd's, but I can't seem to tune in to television with it.) I'm wondering if the guys who sold it to me were wrong and I can't use it without cable/satellite/whatever, or if I'm doing something wrong. (The converter, of course, came with no instructions whatsoever.) Does anyone know if there's anything I can do, or am I just screwed without cable?

You either need another VCR with a tuner, or a set top tuner. Why even mess with a VCR? Get a DVD recorder.
