Ok, just bought a new 50" LG plasma http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0770HDS0010086518&catid=2 3526&logon=&langid=EN and we are seeing black lines on the top and bottom of the screen when watching dvd's still how do we get rid of those? I've gone into the menu of our player and changed it to 16:9 and we're watching widescreen movies. The bars are about 2 inches wide.

If you're watching 2.35:1 movies, you're going to have bars. Use the zoom on the TV or DVD player.
