Is this a Sony SVO-2000 VCR? If so, disconnect the VCR from power. Take the 4 screws from the cover's side & remove cover. You can access the opening for the tape. inside, on the right side of the opening is a white plastic hinge. The hinge wears out and sticks. Use a small screw driver to adjust it back into operating order. Don't break it! Good luck!
