I'm about to pull the trigger on the Oppo 981. This should get me to the point where HD disk format war is over. I'll post when I have some results, but none are in stock as of this date. Oppo says the 26th, but I will wait/see. Any reason for the 971 over the 981? |

I'm actually looking at the 970. I don't want a Faroudja player, too well known for macroblocks. My question is do they hold custom picture settings? Like user 1, 2, etc. I'm thinking of buying one too, but my player I use now and all my DVD recorders hold custom settings that I use a lot, I don't want to give them up. |

David, I don't own one, but you might try this site for objective assessments: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cgi-bin/shootout.cgi |

I own both. Had the 971 for about a year now - no complaints. Recently received the 981 as a bonus item with a projector purchase. The 981 is paired with a 1080 LCD (great picture), the 971 on the plasma. For the $$$, you can't go wrong. |
