I might just have a crap DVD player but when I am playing a DVD the color on my television screen goes from bright to dark throughout the movie. I have tried to use more expensive audio/video cords rather than the ones they give you and nothing seems to work. Crap DVD player or something more? Thank you for your respone.

Don't connect the player through a VCR. What you are seeing is copy protection.
