The LG combi player (DVD and VHS) has in the Netherlands the article nr: DVC5931. However the DV1010 firmware reports the model as LG (NV700020) and the chip ID as MT 1379, which is exactly the same as with the DVC5931. So the DV1010 might be the same as the DVC5931.

The 5000 series software downloaded and burned as CD-ROM did not work.I could enter R0, but after PAUSE and eject the player was still R2.

I tried the 6000 series software and YES the region could be changed and kept changed. So I can play my vast collection of R1 and a few R3 discs as well now!  The 6000 firmware can be found at: http://lgregionfree.tripod.com/

But something strange has happened: every button on the Remote Control does its work, but the buttons on the player don't work anymore (except unpowered the OPEN/CLOSE button of the DVD tray powers the player and opens the tray, and powered - by the RC - only the EJECT of the VHS tape ejects the tape; no further active buttons.

Anyway, with the Remote Control I can handle everything, so I'm a content man!

The 6000 firmware is available on the CD version available in the shop.

Note: d5230 may not have problems with the remote after using 6000 series firmware.

NOTE: Do not call the secret "Firmware Check" screen, because in such case player becomes region-enabled and you will have to repeat the hack.
Rather, if you want to check the regional code, just repeat steps above, but do not change the code (and do not power off the player )
 

Firmware Check:

1. Press Setup button on the remote control.
2. Select TV Aspect.
3. Place the cursor on 16:9 wide.
4. Using the remote control, key in the following: 1, 3, 9, 7, 1, 3, 9.
5. Press Enter on the remote control.
6. Press "SETUP" to clear the information once read.

The above check also does a factory reset on certain models, so this may be an answer to problems that may occur if you attempt the VCD enable method below...

VCD Enable:

NOTE: This hack should ONLY be used on the following players which have been confirmed elsewhere on the Net.  That said, I still cannot take responsibility for things going awry.  Try at your own risk!!! Do NOT use on 3200E.

The 'confirmed' players that survive the following hack are:

DVD-2330P, DVD-3000E, DVD-3350/1/E/C (and clones), DA-3520, DVD-4210, DVD-4710, DVD-4730, DVD-4750, DVD-4830, DVD-4950, DVD-5083, DVD-5812, DVD-5822N, 5930, 6053, FFH-DV25, DA-3620, DV1010, 7911N.  DVD-3200E models with firmware above version 1.0 (not including it!) may work.  This model has had the most trouble recently, as the hack works, but leaves you with no picture for playback on DVD at the very least!   Be warned!!!

1. Power on the player with no disc in the drive.  If the hack doesn't work, press Stop on the remote before step 2.
2. Press Pause on the remote control.
3. Using the remote control, key in the following: 1, 4, 7, 2 (the characters 01 47 should appear on the display) [If your player is a non UK model, this number will probably be different - don't worry]
4. Press the UP arrow three times (the characters 04 Fd should appear on the display)
[This number may be different depending on the configuration of your specific model - don't worry]
5. Press Program, 6, Program, 5 (the characters 04 FE should now be displayed).
6. Press Enter (the display should flash briefly), or OK.
7. Press Return.
8. Power the player off and then back on.
9. Play a VCD!

One possibility that may get non-working players working again is to try and back-step what you done in the above steps, but seeing as you will working blind, then it may be rather hard work, if not futile.  Another possibility is to use the firmware display hack, listed above.

This has the effect of resetting certain TV out aspects, which may help you get your DVD working again.

Another way is possibly the 'blind method' to set S-video for TV output:

1. Power on the DVD without a disc in the drive.
2. Wait for the No Disc illumination on the LED.
3. Press Setup on the remote control.
4. Press Down seven times slowly on the remote control.
5. Press Right, then Up, then Enter on the remote control.
6. The screen should come back on.

Try these and let me know the results!!!!!

Here is a way to reset your player if it breaks when doing the VCD hack:

1. Power on player with no disk in.
2. Press pause on remote.
3. Using remote enter 1, 4, 7, 2.
4. Press the up arrow three times.
5. Press 9, 4 on your remote.
6. Press enter (the display should flash briefly)
7. Press return.
8. Power the player on and then back on
9. Your dvd play screen should be there as it was before.
10. Breath a huge sigh of relief!!!

This method above may not work, it looks like you have to be really careful to begin with - so be careful!!

For the LG DV7711p the DVD should be out of the player and wait for "no disc" to come up on the DVD player's digital display.

Some models may not work at all - there is a firmware upgrade you can use for 6054 and 6188 (and other models if possible):

1. Download the file from:

This is available on the Region Free DVD CD from the shop.
2. Insert the burned CD into the dvd, wait for the menu on the LCD of the dvd.
3. Pressed "0" then "PAUSE", turned the dvd OFF.
4. That's it !!!, REGION FREE.

6033 (SVCD hack only)

2.Use a 650Mb CDRW and set the CD project up so that it has ISO9660 and Mode 1.  Also close the disc (no multisession).
3. When done just put in your player and when prompted select 0 for all regions.

SVCD Hack

1- Power up the dvd with no disc
2- Press pause and then press 1 4 7 2
3- Press right arrow until appears on the display 07
60 (the characters 60 may be different, 07 are the
most important!!!)
4- Hold pressed the 6 on the remote control until the 6
change to F
5- Press the right arrow once
6- Hold pressed the 5 on the remote control until the 0
change to E
7- Now in the display appears the number 07 FE (if
don't repeat the sequence!!!)
8- Press pause
9- Turn off the player
10-Enjoy with your SVCD!!!

VCD Hack

1- Power up the dvd with no disc
2- Press pause and then pres 1 4 7 2
3- Press right arrow until appears on the display 04
DD (the characters DD may be different, 04 are the
most important!!!)
4- Hold pressed the 6 on the remote control until the 6
change to F
5- Press the right arrow once
6- Hold pressed the 5 on the remote control until the 0
change to E
7- Now in the display appears the number 04 FE (if
don't repeat the sequence!!!)
8- Press pause
9- Turn off the player
10-Enjoy with your VCD!!!

If you make a mistake with these codes above, you can use this to correct:

the correct prom (with VCD and SVCD hack correctly installed) should be:

55 53 00 FE 16 55 FE FF

You should easily put these values with your remote control (use the arrows for moving, the numbers, and hold long the 6 for the F and hold long the 5 for the E).

1. Power up the dvd with no disc
2. Press Pause and then press 31 41 59
3. Press 0 (for all codes or any code you desire)
4. Press pause
5. Power off and power on the player
