I'm a new buyer and I'm wondering which is better.

I'm looking for something around 50" for $2000-3000. I'm not a HD user and don't plan on it. I don't care too much about pic quality I just want a BIG screen. I will be sitting about 10-12' away from the screen (most of the time).

Probable myths of Rear Projection I'd like answered:

Are they heavy?

Does the pic disappear if you are loooking from an angle?

BTW I'm leaning towards a RP because they are cheaper.

Don't bother with a plasma or LCD screen if you aren't going to get HD channels or play any games in HD.

Save your money and buy a rear projection DLP screen.

Are they heavy? do you plan on carrying around the TV? Size is as big a problem for transport as is the weight.

Most viewing angles are pretty good if you get a good brand name TV.

Plasma has a much better picture quality. RPTVs may not be around in a couple of years due to the picture quality gap between them and the much better Plasma and LCD options. You can get a 50 inch plasma for less than your stated range no problem as well, with HD resolution.

RPTVs are NOT heavy to me. They are not cheaper either anymore so thats false too.

Avoid DLP. Too many moving parts.
