Howdy folks,

Hope you can help me figure this out. Recently did a Craigs list trade for a 51 inch Akai rear Projection TV. And while we like it, sound is great, clear picture etc, there's an odd issue with the brightness.

The center of the screen looks fine but as you get out towards the edges it fades a bit and takes on a slightly darker brownish tint. It's not bad, but it's annoying enough to notice. If we jack up the brightness all the way that lessens the effect but you can still see it.

I'm guessing this is a problem with the whatever kind of bulb they are using in the TV? Or is the bulb going bad or something? If this is the case, is it possible to replace the bulb with a new or better one? If not what else could it be?

Thanks,

CD

Just to add, after doing some more searching I realized that these things probalby have three CRTs in them, not bulbs...I had this idea that it was more like a LCD projector.
