I recently got a Toshiba SD-4990 DVD player which I received from Toshiba as a replacement for the SD-5960. The first movie I played in it was The Chronicles of Narnia. The first scene in the movie is dark, and alot of the black areas are VERY pixilized - such as the actors' hair, dark clothing, some background, etc. My setup is the SD-4990 into a Mitsubishi Diamond WS-65815. The DVD player has HDMI output, and I have an HDMI to DVI converter cable since the TV has DVI input. I have the problem if I use 480p, 720p, or 1080i. This was the same setup I had with the SD-5960 - without any problems. When I connect through S-Video or Component, I don't have the problem. But the DVD player doesn't let me select an HD resolution through these. A year ago I wouldn't have known better, but the difference is amazing. By the way, I know it's not the DVD - I've tried others. And it's not the TV - the HD channels from my DirecTV receiver are fine. Anybody have any thoughts what might be causing this? |
