Cable box
Cable splitter
VCR
A/B switch
TV
DVD player
RF Modulator (DVD player will not function without this)

We can currently tape a show while watching a different show. I tried to cable the DVD-R into the current arrangement, but wound up tearing my hair out.

If you want to use a DVD player and a DVD recorder, get a video switcher. You can buy them at Wal Mart or Radio Shack. You really should think about getting a new TV, the picture quality will be far better using the line inputs instead of the RF input.
