Our cable company Altantic Broadband just got HDTV service to us. However, the cable box ... Motorola Dual-Tuner DVR High-Definition Set-Top DCT6412 only has a DVI output. If I get a DVI to HDMI converter is this going to affect my quality of picture?

nope, digital DVI video is the same as HDMI video. HDMI also carries the digital audio channels where DVI does not.

I just purchased a 10' DVI to HDMI cable from www.monoprice.com for $18 and it was extremely well made. Since the DVI to HDMI cable only carried the digital video, I still had to add the typical red/white audio cables to that connection.
