I know this has been posted before, but I still wasn't sure where to go from there. I have a Gateway laptop that only has the D-sub 15 pin VGA. I want to connect it to my Mitsubishi 55" widescreen HDTV. I have the ATI Radeon 200M Series video card. Can I just buy the product ID 2173 12' VGA to 3 RCA Component Video Cable? http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&style=
And then just select "Other monitor" under /Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/Displays. Would this work? Again, I apologize in advance because I know this has been posted before. Thanks for your help.

Anthony, this is from the monoprice product description:

This cable doesn't support a computer monitor video port, or Y , Cr, Cb Video. Your video source should provide a YpbPr Component Video Signal from the HD 15 video ports to use this cable.
This cable can not convert the video signal from one type to another. Both devices must be compatible with the same signal. Do not assume that this cable will work just because you have a VGA port (ie. you can't use this cable to connect your PC to a device that only accepts component video, since PCs do not output component video).

I know you have a fancy video card but I'm pretty sure it doesn't send a component signal out of your computer's VGA out. And your Mits doesn't know what to do with a VGA signal.

Assuming your video card supports your computer's VGA output, you would need conversion from VGA to component. This might work, although I have no experience with it.

Thanks,

I looked into it further and I believe you are correct, The computer doesn't appear to support the component through its VGA. Looks like I'll have to try you last idea.
