Following up on James' question below (Scart to VGA), I am trying to figure out whether I can economically connect my digital (Telewest) cable box directly to my LCD monitor, bypassing a TV tuner altogether. Putting aside the sound issue which can be easily taken care of, I have seen simple SCART to VGA cables (a few pounds from Germany via Ebay), SCART to VGA synch cables with sound output (about 20-50 pounds from either ebay or online sellers), and fancier (more expensive) converter boxes such as the one recommended to James (60-100 pounds). Do I really need the more expensive converter? According to one 35 pound SCART to VGA synch lead blurb, "The screen must support a horizontal scan rate of 15.625KHz- most projectors, plasma and LCD panels do whereas CRT monitors don't." It seems to me (??) that if my LCD monitor supports the 15.62KHz rate, then I shouldn't need the converter. ??? Thanks in advance for any advice!!
