Can anyone tell me what this is for. What does BPF mean? Thanks.

I think this is Band Pass Filter. This type of filter creates a broad band of high sensitivity with sudden and steep drop-offs of sensitivity to frequency above and below the "passband" or the desired frequencies. The steep, square shape would allow a tuner (or video filter) to be able to "see" everything it wants and reject EVERYTHING else.
