I tried to put my TIVO harddrive into my computer with hopes of downloading all the recorded files onto another hard drive. My computer could not see the drive, it said it was unformatted. When I returned it to my Direct TV Tivo, it will power up then go to a blank grey screen. Any advise? HELP!!

TiVo hdd's are not formatted the same as a pc, so your pc cannot read the drive, you must have tried to format it while it was in your pc and erased the TiVo's OS make sure you connected the cables inside the TiVo properly and try to reboot the TiVo it might re-format the HDD.
Was the power on your TiVo disconnected when you romoved or re-installed the drive?
if not then all i can say is

Be more careful with your next TiVo
