Quote from a user:
"The first version of OmniRemote did not start at all due to some error with the IR-port.

When I found another version of OmniRemote, I could not import the memo as a database. OmniRemote only registered 17 of 19 "buttons". I had to export a database from OmniRemote, edit it as a memo and then import it again, to make it work. When I had pressed the "0" button about 39 times, my DVD player restarted and accepted DVD's from region 1,2,3 and 4."

Alternatives:

because some don't like PDAs and expensive remotes,
have converted the (broken) Pronto Codes to Codes
for the Linux "lirc". (Linux Remote Control)

There is also windows version of "lirc", but don't know if this config file will work fro windows.

See http://www.lirc.org/ for details.

Save the following lines as /etc/lircd.conf
start "lircd"
now type

"rc send_once pioneer region"

Thats it !

Have fun !

I simply pasted the hexcodes into the rc5000setup application on a new button. Can't get easier then that!

Theory : There might be an internal counter that has to be decreased to 0 before the action takes place(number of hours used/number of dvd's seen). If you have had the DVD player for a while, sit down and be patient and press '0' until you drop ...

Does this simple circuit (one resistor,IR-led & diode) work with WinLIRC and Pioneer DV-350?

http://www.lirc.org/transmitters.html

Yes it works! All you need is 3 components and a serial port connector. In WinLirc you must enable TDR.

More methods for WinLIRC (quoted):

This is how I got it to work with WinLirc:

1) remove following files from WinntINF

*irda*
irnsc.inf (might be different dep. of your hardware)
netirda.inf

(I'm not sure if all these really need to be removed. Remember to leave a backup copy)

2) In Device Manager: Uninstall the IBM ThinkPad Fast Infrared Port (or similar Ir device)

3) edit WinntINFnetirsir.inf: (INF editing info is copied from WIRC pages)

Remove following lines

%*PNP0510.DevDesc% = PNP, *PNP0510
%*PNP0511.DevDesc% = PNP, *PNP0511

Change line
ExcludeFromSelect=*PNP0510,*PNP0511,*IBM0002,*IBM0034,*IBM0020

to this

ExcludeFromSelect=*IBM0002,*IBM0034,*IBM0020

2) Edit WinntINFmsports.inf

Add these lines to section [Std]:

%*PNP0510.DeviceDesc% = ComPort, *PNP0510, *PNP0511 ; Communications Port

%*PNP0511.DeviceDesc% = ComPort, *PNP0511, *PNP0510 ; Communications Port

Add these lines to section [Strings]:

*PNP0510.DeviceDesc = "Generic Ir Serial Port"
*PNP0511.DeviceDesc = "Generic Ir Serial Port"

Add this line to section [ControlFlags]:

ExcludeFromSelect=*PNP0510,*PNP0511

3) Reboot and let the hardware wizard run and it should find the driver for "Generic Ir Serial Port".

If everything goes ok you will see "Generic Ir Serial Port (COM2)" in the device manager.

I also changed the speed for this com port for 115200.

You are now all set to install WinLirc (I used version 0.6.3). Configure it to:

correct com port
speed: 115200
Receiver typee: RX Device
virtual pulse: 300
Transmitter settings: TX
and you need to set a config file (the lircd.conf file that Peter posted).

Open winlirc from the taskbar and select pioneer region and sed the code and thats it. Worked for me in the first try.

Quotes from a bulletin board:

"I have just used th hack for the pioneer dv-454, and it works. Tried several times to import the category, but always the OR changed the code to 0048, so I uploaded the memo to the palm, changed the code to 0050 before importing, and that was it, OR exported it as 0049. I had to press button "0" 23 times in the OR until the dvd player turned off. Hope it helps.

I have used the hack for DV 454 and it works. I have got some problems with changes in the codes after importing to OmniRemote but it worked anyway.

Region code hack posted by Afton Worlfegast at January 15 2003:
I applied the dv454 hack with a Palm III on this player and itw orked perfectly with region 1 and 4 dvds. I noted that when exporting the codes from Omniremote (v2.07) some codes where changed (the infamous 49-->48, see dv454 hack list) but tried it anyway, and _it works"

The latest news is that the above LIRC codes canbe used in a Nokia 3650 mobile phone (with other phones such as Nokia 7650 or Sony P800) and a copy of total Ir Remote (version 1.30, from www.psiloc.com).

Total Ir Remote can import Lirc codes, so all you have to do is copy the relevant Lirc section from your site and send the file to the phone, open and load the file, then just point and shoot. Simple!

Yes for 353 and Clie SJ33/E, DV-360S with Palm Pilot m505 and  Omni Remote.

Yes for Pioneer XV-DV303 and Nokia 3650.

Yes for DCS303

Yes for DV-656 and Pronto - press 0 three times.
