Hello everyone, I intend to buy a Liteon LVW-5005, mainly to copy my Disney movies from VHS to DVD. Reading thru this forum, I got the impression that on this particular make, LITEON, by hacking the firmware could defeat MACROVISION copy protection. Is this assumption correct? So if I buy a LITEON DVD Recorder, hack the firmware, could make a copy of my beloved FANTESIA with no problem, and don't need a stabilizer between the VCR and DVD Recorder. Right? AdyO |

If you can hack the recorder you will be able to override macrovision. Only thing I would not recommend on the 5005 is its crappy tuner- it records MONO audio and the image quality isn't quite up there compared to, say a panasonic tuner. If you use the other input ports other than the tuner then quality is fine. |

Lite On are not reliable recorders. Do some searching in a/V forums and you'll find many Lite On complaints. There's a reason they cost half as much as name brand recorders. |
