1st off, I am an audiophile and video is secondary to me. But I just bought a whole new combined 2ch/home theater system including a Rotel 1068 pre/pro and a Rotel 1040 DVD player.

My issue is I've recently discovered (duh) that HDMI is *the* new and best standard for video, and the 1040 has no HDMI output. It does progressive scan via component out only.

This is a $500 player. I guess they just haven't gotten around to doing HDMI yet! Should I return it and buy the Toshiba or something? I plan on a new TV with HDMI input in the near future...

Thanks!

The difference in video quality between digital video (HDMI or DVI) is quite negligible to component, especially when the signal is from a high quality player. The reason HDMI is the "new" (and therefore "best") is becasue it is an A/V cable all in one. No better in video quality than DVI, and not appreciably better than component.
