I'm planning to get the Denon 3806 receiver and need to match it with a reasonable DVD Player.

The Denon 2910 pushes the cost envelope. Apparently the new Panasonic 97S is comparable.

Why would I choose the Denon ($800.00) over the Panasonic ($250.00)?

I want great sound and picture and need HDMI for my projector.

The Denon will have a superior deinterlacer than the Panasonic, so you will actually get better progressive scan performance from the Denon.

However, consider this alternative at this website:
