Hdmi upconverted signal to a TV without HDMI or DVI?

Is this possible? I see AV receivers out there that have HDMI inputs and Component outputs would this work? Th eset I have supports 1080i. Any input or sugestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Jack

you can send an upconverted signal through component, apparently it is not as clear as through HDMI/DVI. Your hardware has to be configured for it though. The LG Up Convert DVD player is set up for it, roughly $200, I have not searched the market for alternatives since this is what I already have.

The upconverting Samsung hd-841 can give real 1080i through a component connection. You need the special ANGLE code and then it upgrades beautifully...verified using resolution screens from Digital Video Essencials.
