Here's a c&p from al7bar that might help you:
"Lifetime Ultra NTSC. If you read and do all of this you will have less questions at the end.
Use a STRAIGHT THROUGH CABLE RS232C hooked up to your receiver from the computer. Take the cable off going to the LNB.
If you have the year model Dec 2004 or 2005 receiver then you may need to use a USB to Serial cable 26-183 at Radio Shack. Get detailed instructions here http://www.beaglesoft .com/232usb.htm
Download Al7bar FTA Ultra 050926 282t3_12H_clock api(NTSC).zip
You can get it here http://forums.al7bar .tk/showthread.php?t=113827
Download to your computer Blacklist STB UPDATER.ZIP It don't ask you as many questions.
You can get it here http://forums.al7bar .tk/showthread.php?p=300891#post300891
UNZIP both files. You can use WinZip or Winace.

Click on UPDATER.EXE to start it.
Set the COM PORT and put a dot in BIN.
Click on BROWES then put in Al7bar FTA Ultra 050926 282t api(NTSC).bin (note it is a bin)
Turn receiver on from the back, when FIRST bar starts then click FIX on your computer.
After you get compleat on the computer the ON will display in the receiver, then it will displays a channel number if you have channels in your receiver. Your receiver is flashed." |

I tried your fix above and it says write failed. I have used blacklist stb updater v3.21 and fortecstar stb updater v3.21 (flash update failed) your 282 fix and 276 fix. any other suggestions? |

Just downloaded windows XP Professional yesterday before I started all this. Tried before with Windows 98SE and it didn't work. The port setting should be at 115200, which I changed on the device manager. But when I go to system information and to the port setting the Baud rate for com1 is on 9600. Could this be my problem?

Don't change any settings the bits per second in com1 properties in device manager should be 9600, you might however try switching to a different com port in the loader, also try shutting down any antivirus or firewalls running on your pc.
And are you sure you have the right cable? it should be straight-through for fortec ultra. |

coldgirl - If you are using the Blacklist Loader, you do not need to change anything and as far as the baud rate on your pc is set by the device manager so that's not the problem.
I agree with h3lt3r, sounds like a cable problem. |

I went to a friends house and tried to download off his computer with my cable. Flash failed. Hooked up his computer and it worked. How come they give you cables with the receivers that don't work. |

Coldgirl, depends where you buy it. A lot of the dealers are known to give you the wrong cable. At least you got it working and now know what cable to use in the future. |

There should be a short description to the right of the file name, it tells you whats in the new bin.
Once you unzip it, the bin should have the same name as one above.

I would like to flash my fortec ultra lifetime back to factory settings....is there a bin for that or is it something you do with your remote? I have a fortec lifetime ultra that didn't take the bin right and the menu seems messed up - it keeps going to 'language' whenever I try to exit the menu. Would really appreciate a little help. I just flashed a fortec receiver with the bin file "Al7bar_FTA_Ultra_050926_282_api_NTSC__11_7_05". The channels work fine, but the receiver does not seem to respond to the remote. Is there something else I need to do? I'd appreciate all the help. Thanks.

And
When I disconnect the box, for the occasional upgrade, and I connect it again it completelly looses the 110 channel. The signal stength is looks good but I get not signal. Then a couple of days or weeks later image could be seen on the 110 channels, Is that normal?

I just installed Fortec Ultra using single LNB to a Echo 3 61.5 satellite. I am not getting any channels. My receiver has:
AI7bar - 2.81t, Boot version 6.0 dated Sept 26, 2005. The signal strength is 75%.
When I do Power scan it says 0 Transponders found.
