This file from rookie worked for me. Fortec Lifetime Ultra NTSC post 3/04 mfg. 2.81 already installed.

I can confirm that the file is ntsc. Also in order to load it with Fortec's 3.21 loader program rename the file to - Al7bar FTA Ultra_051305_281_api(NTSC) - this will save you alot of headaches

When I try to flash the Ultra281_patched_09-13-05_ECM I keep getting a "Model Name Does Not Correct" message.I tried renaming the file Al7bar FTA Ultra_051305_281_api(NTSC)and even Al7bar FTA Ultra_050908_280_api(NTSC)but the massage keep coming up.Can I be saved from this problem(lol).PS,I can still flash my original 281 flsh but I cant fool the stb to upload the new file under that name.On the stb model box I have "Lifetime Ultra" typed in and it has worked for previous flashes.

MC,Tried to us the e-mail link you gave for Vibe,got back that message couldn't be delivered.
If anyone could clue me in on what I may be doing wrong I would appreciate it.
Cant upload the Ultra 281_patched_09-13-05_ECM flash.Tried factory reset and couldn't upload it and than reflashed the 281 and tried to upload Ultra 281_patched_09-13-05_ECM and even changed the name of the file but can't get it to upload.

1) You can find most of the files you need at dsstester or dssevolution or maestra as well as many other sites - when we go down this is a good place to post files for everyone to get as most of the servers go down.
2) I haven't bashed anyone so please don;t say i have - read all my posts and you will clearly see that. i beleive in spirited debate and do not wish an appology from anyone on here!
3) I try and help as much as I can I am new to FTA but am learning very quickly. I cannot answer all your questions especially about receivers i do not own.
I own Digiwave 7000's and DTV Ultimate TV and Dish Network 6000's. Any other receiver I havent had my hands on yet. I read and talk to other and pass along that info.
3) Loading or flashing is the same thing and the most important thing is the cable without the correct one you cannot communicate with the receiver. Go to your manufacturer/dealer's website and check what they say is the correct cable - two types only Null modem cable or Pass thru also known as a monitor extension cable - always female to female.
4) Software for loading/flashing your unit (the receiver not your p p) can also be found on the manufacturer/dealer sites - www.digiwave.ca - www.pansatusa.com - http://www.fortecstar.com
5) Bin's are simply "Binary" files. Using a hex editor you can read them and alter them in hexadecimal 0 thru F (16 number set - 10 does not exist).
6) A complete flash should be 2 megs - if your flash bin is smaller than you are only doing an update to the code and not the receiver.
7) N2 has been compromised and there is no doubt about that now - but yes it is early and Dish did not spend 10's of millions of dollars on a system that can't counter measure a hack - this is normal and will be a way of life. get used to uploading new bin's on a regular basis until we learn more and become better coders.
8) EPG is the electronic Program Guide. If you have a channel list created in Channel Master and correctly identify the NID and TID (most important) you will have a channel guide or at least the name of the current program for each station or channel. http://forums.dsstester.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=39477&highlight=nid+tid is all I could find on Nid's and Tid's
9) I haven't found a decompiler / compiler yet for the bin files - but if we do we could theoretically write our own codes provided we had source information such as keys and ecm data. Any DTV programmer should feel at home there.
10). DTV does not work on your FTA receiver as it is not a stream under DVB - take for example Digicypher - normal FTA's cannot interprept the stream even with software as it takes hardware - however there are new FTA's that will do digicypher, DTV, Dish, and Mpeg 4. But forget a few hundred bucks and think thousands.
11) DTV has been hacked and it does work - however it has not been released to any of the general population - No idea why yet unless i was tricked into beleiving a scam to say this - but i dont think i was.
12) Stop with the theories of who leaked what and why - it's simple - if you want some info from an employee the employee will give you info for - sex - 2000 dollars if not less - or drugs. It doesn't take much - really!!!.
13) No dealer bashing unless a dealer screws you - and i means screws - if you paid to much you should have checked prices!
14) Stop using 21 switches they don't work properly - get a diseq switch for about 15 bucks.
15) Yes adult is back and will be around - please no shaking my hand any more when you ask about adult programming ok! |

Does anyone realize that even if you set back to the factory setting, all channels will still up. My friend let me know he could not load the new bin ,as some one has posted this problem, then he rescanned with the factory setting. It works. In my case, I loaded new bin yesterday. It works. Then I test my friend claim, setting back my fortec ultra litetime to factory setting and resccan the Echo6/8. IT ALSO WORKS. Any explaination?

MC.....Well, Yesterday I received the file from a person in this forum. I loaded and tested the file. It works. Then I sent this to my friend to use. He could not load it, then he set back to factory setting and rescan Echo 7, 6/8, all the channels are up. To test his claim, I've just set back my fortecstar ultra life time to factory setting and scan Echo6/8 again. All the channels are up. I mean as long as all the channels up I'm happy. But I wonder Y it works that way. |

This site is better than hashhu, dss-newbie, dsstester, al7bar etc (which WERE the best)..all the top dogs (even other site owners all mod and help here...no politics) and always latest files..and files for EVERY receiver, the DB,digiwave as well as all the clones and standard Pansat and Fortecs etc...I been around a long time and this is the best kept secret..the only other site that rivals this is cardcoders..This is a FREE, but must register site..
BTW...their server is Sooooo big,it never goes down!...so NO waiting to get the latest files.Also no kids allowed and its all informative and educational with some good clean fun mixed in..check it out yourself..its your loss,if you don't..You will be totally impressed..

I've been testing FTA for a long time, I have 2 coolsa pros an a pansa 2500A, Pansa sucks right now for support. There is new file beening written now that doesn't take the Manufactures in View. the Great day's are Here. If you go to your favorite Forum you"ll see new files that dont come from the MAKERS.Coolst have the best support so far. New bin is wide open PRN,PPV. where is pansat with their killer SH_it. OK. I have successfully programmed the Lifetime Ultra using the new bin. You need to use the loader called the Blacklist STB Updater 1.3 You DO NOT NEED TO RENAME THE MODEL. Turn on your receiver with the power switch at the back after connecting the com port to the back or the receiver. Turn on the switch on the back and WAIT TIL YOU SEE A CHANNEL ON THE DISPLAY before opening the loader.Then open the loader program. Choose the port then browse for your bin then make sure the dot is in bin not boot. Finally, click FIX and watch the load bar. Don't interrupt the reciver til you see OK on your computer screen. |

To those who use the fortec. The safest loader seems to be the blacklist updated, as MC mentions. IMPORTANT: 1st, SOME OTHER LOADERs DO NOT LOAD THE BIN 281 IN TO THE FORTEC.
2nd DO NOT SCAN BEV WITH FORTEC. My friend did it then he tries amd wait for the pic comes up. It automatically turn off the Fortec. Ffter a while, no more light, I mean the Fortec goes in to COMA.
This afternoon I try it to see. After scanning, i wait few secs to see, indeed, it automatically turns on and off twices within less than 30 seconds. To avoid it goes into coma, I have to go to menu and set back to factory setting. Eventually, it erases the list of channels of BEV. I'm safe.
Just let you guys know to avoid it. |

Hello all,MC,Vibe,thanks for the help.I was able to use blacklist updater to load new bin file.
I go most channels,a couple of adult channels,one showtime,two hbo's (ones spanish)and some ppv's.Only five radio channels.I thought I'd get a lot of radio channels,like country,r&b,hip hop,ect...Does this programing sound right?Never had the reciever up before with the old bin files.Using echo 7 sat.
Tell me if I am on point with my channels,thought there were more hbo's,showtime channels.No MTV,BET,Cartoon Network.
I just wanna get the most programing I can get.This is great,but thought there was more.
Thanks for any input here!
PS.if I can help anyone,let me know,I did get the new bin,and blacklist updater.

HHHHHHHHH. Who's LK. Haven't seen him since the updates that Vibe and I confirmed were released. We also told you that p*rn was available too. How long did it take you to figure out what we had already told you? LOL. I am a member on Al7bar, and when the site is in VIP mode and the servers are full... Guess who is getting the files and verifying info. Now I apologize for taking so long to get you guys the info, but I have a job during the day and I don't confirm anything til I've officially tested it. That STB loader is common sense. It is the most successful and thatz why I mentioned it. I didn't have to. read the previous posts. I told you this afternoon what to do to download the Ultra file. Anywayz, enjoy it for a few days cuz thatz how long it will last. Members of this site, don't listen to the BS in here. Watch for fixes or valuable info. I really feel sorry for those who defend LK, He's a good guy, but when he's wrong, he hides. Anyone can see that. Good ,you will have a site full of newbies with no knowledge,except what you copy from LK. You don't honestly believe that you are more important here than LK.Get a grip on yourself and ego.

Listen! If you are having problems with your receiver, I highly recommend do a firmware update. This will wipe clean your box. If you have Fortec this how I have done, and it works!:
1. Update firmware
2. Downloaded 281api using BL Updater 1.4
3. Downloaded Channel List or Scan for channels, not both! One or the other.

I read some of the posts today and noticed that one person was wondering about factory software and why it was working - From what I have read your friend loaded the new software then loaded the factory software - I think your friend only loaded the receiver info over the flash - the receiver info is the channel guide and menu settings not rom code. If you actually take the factory bin - the complete bin and try it - you will see that it will not work - if it did all of our atmegas and rom 10's etc would be working |

I can't get lifetime ultra to flash! It will begin but then will stop and say 'flash write failed' ER1'. I tried loading the boot file but i still can't get a bin on it after the boot file is loaded. Seem like my box have no power up and light. Please help! |

alright... ive heard every which way to get fortec ultra back up what is the best way ive got the 279 bin loaded do i need the 281 bin or do i stay with the 279 and do a power scan and reload sat 6 7and 8 thanks |

Ok Vib.....Help me out here. : ) I live in Canada where do I go to purchase the equipment I need to load files into my fortec. Radio Shack?...lol I am not poor just living in the boonys with no cable access etc.Don,t mind paying $40 everytime I need my receiver updated but it would be great to be able to do it without driving 30km everytime I go down. Blonde here so would need instructions as well. |

I do not own a fortec but I think it works like a pansat as far as loading new bins etc.

K999, make sure the bin is extracted, if fails again. Try Downloading Firmware on Fortec Website. This will clean out the box and give a clean slate.
Than use BL 1.4 and 281api |

Cables are selling out everywhere - and radio shack is terrible - try a computer store - a smaller one and ask for either a pass thru serial female to female cable if that is what your receiver requires or a null modem cable if that is what your receiver requires - all cables are rs232 9 pin and female to female. 40 each time you go down!!!!! that is terrible - I do charge to teach people at my house and load the software and provide a complete setup - but thats one time and i do it because it takes two hours and people are lazy the first time
Software is freee - and you can find out for free - the only time someone should charge is for their time and you are giving something they can't get online for free
