I shoot 1hr videos with a Canon XL1s digital camcorder and need to burn a DVD while I'm shooting, instead of using a Mini-DV tape in the camcorder.

I then need to make a copy of the DVD, in mpeg 1 or mpeg 2 format without taking hours to make copies.

What portable hardware is best to connect to the camcorder, and what software will convert the master DVD to the mpeg 1 or mpeg 2 format?
