contrast ratio...it doesn't even show on most spec charts, but Samsung charges about $1000 more for its 1080p TVs w/10000:1 ratio vs. the 5000:1 ratio.

If i'm gonna drop $3k on a TV, $4k only hurts 33% more...so i'm willing to spend the money if there's a "wow" kind of difference here. Is there?

The difference from 5000:1 vs. 10000:1 is not going to be twice as good to your eyes. I would not spend the extra money based solely on that spec alone. I doubt very much that you would notice the difference. I am assuming the set you are comparing it with is a 720P set, right? 1080P will potentially give you a better picture, but that is highly dependant on your incoming signal. Have you had a chance to view both sets side-by-side?

View this thread for more info on the 1080P subject.

joe,

Samsung doesn't make a 5000:1 contrast set.
Their new 1080P sets are all 10,000:1 contrast. If you download the pdf Spec Sheet for the 68 and the 78 models there is no difference. There is no real justification for the price difference since the cabinet design is the only real difference. The 68 is the obvious choice.
