I finally got to the point where I can transfer VHS tapes to DVD and they play on the stand alone. The problem is the quality of the finished pruduct.

I know that transfer VHS to DVD will usually not improve the quality of the original, but I thought with a good (great picture on the TV from the original VHS) tape, the quality on the DVD would be at least equal. No?

Even with recording on SP,limiting myself to 60 minutes max, quality is fair at best. A lower recording speed gives poor quality on DVD playback.

I have a dedicated 80GB unpartitioned HD, my settings are proper all around, good Sony burner, Power Director/Producer software, etc. but - - -

What has been your experience and what have been your settings/equipment?

Thanks.

I do them on a standalone and they come out considerably better than the original recording. I always use SP. Never tried on a PC.
